Frequently asked (and Occasionally Risqué) Questions

1. Do I need a reservation for wine tasting?

Nope! We welcome walk-ins at both our Lake Chelan and Leavenworth tasting rooms. If you’re bringing a large group (6+), we’d love a heads-up—just so we’re ready to give you the full Hard Row experience. Booking ahead helps us plan the naughty details.

2. Are kids or dogs allowed at your tasting rooms?

Yes and yes! Well-behaved kids and leashed dogs are welcome—just know we’ve got some cheeky wine labels and stories floating around. (Let’s just say this is a PG-13 kind of vineyard.)

3. What’s the story behind the name “Hard Row to Hoe”?

Glad you asked. It’s a wink at Lake Chelan’s history—specifically a rowboat taxi service in the 1930s that ferried miners to a brothel on the north shore. We work hard in the vineyard, and we don’t mind a little innuendo in the tasting room.

4. Do you ship wine?

We ship to most states! Our wines are too good to keep to ourselves. Join the Oar House Wine Club for better shipping rates and insider-only access to our most seductive bottles.

5. What wines do you specialize in?

We’re known for estate-grown Cabernet Franc (our flagship) and Pinot Noir—one of the few grown in the Lake Chelan AVA. We also make adventurous small-lot wines from rare varieties, fermented with wild yeast and aged in everything from amphoras to barrels.

6. What makes your vineyard different?

We farm sustainably and are certified LIVE and Salmon Safe—the first in North Central Washington to earn that. Our glacial soils and high-altitude site give our wines real Lake Chelan AVA character. No cookie-cutter blends here. Our estate vineyards recently became USDA Organic Certified, the first in the valley.

7. Where can I taste your wines?

Visit us in Lake Chelan or Leavenworth—two tasting rooms, same mischief. Expect wines with great bawdy, and an obliging tasting room staff that’ll make you feel right a little scandalous discovering all the naughty nuances.

8. How do I join the Oar House Wine Club?

It’s easy—and worth it. Members get access to limited wines, free tastings, and club-only parties that are just the right amount of naughty. Join the club and get in on the good stuff.

9. Is the Lake Chelan tasting room a brothel?

No, and there are no ‘soiled doves’ at this location.

10. Where did you get the wallpaper in the bathroom?

Ha ha… a corporate secret that we cannot divulge. We can tell you that it was created in Europe and was purchased there.
